Abstract

Geography has gone through countless controversies, ruptures of fields to be studied, erroneous projections regarding its importance as a science and important enclaves so that today we could have Geography in the scientific environment we know. Meetings and mismatches in its evolutionary processes as a social discipline was an important detail that brought Geography to the scientific path it is now, but its evolution still persists since the understanding of the socio-environmental and the study of the object of Geography itself doesn’t leave any doubts that it renews itself every day and its dynamic process in a historical context has become a fascinating object of study. Thus, and being aware of its features, knowing its important reflection on the geographic contexts in which it operates, this work is justified as far as it allows us to look at the historical aspect of Geography, making us reflect on several aspects including its importance for understanding the paths of geographic science in Brazil. For this, we rely on the general objective, which is to understand the geographic context in its historical bias, supported by the specific objectives, which is to analyze how the historical process of geography as a science took place; interpret the historical movements of social struggles as references for the introduction of geography as a science in society and understand the natural-society relationship between Physical Geography and Human Geography. In order for us to achieve these goals, the methodology used to do so was through bibliographic readings and analysis of websites that addressed the subject and could contribute to the aforementioned research. Authors such as Francisco Mendonça (2010; 2014) and Nunes (2015), among others, were essential to guide us in this process. Finally, it was understood that Geography went through several factors that placed it on a two-way street, but united with humanity again when it was understood the real meaning of Geographical Science in the historical social context and its importance for understanding the dynamics global social
