Call for Papers 1-2025 • History and Reason

 

The Journal Revista de Teoria da História is pleased to invite submissions for its new dossier, focusing on the intricate interplay between History and Reason — two critical categories in the debate surrounding the Philosophy of History. We welcome scholars in the Humanities, particularly those specializing in History, to submit essays, articles, translations, and reviews that address this topic. The relationship between History and Reason, despite being a well-trodden topic in public and academic discourse, demands fresh and deepened inquiry from today’s intellectual community. The contemporary landscape, marked by conflicts, wars, authoritarian regimes, crises in public opinion, and threats to democratic institutions, along with other local and global manifestations of irrationalism emerging both locally and globally, compels those concerned with human destiny to harness the power of thought, analysis, and criticism. These efforts should serve as a broad endeavor to restore and rebuild Reason in response to the challenges posed by History, which has even led to the necessary fragmentation of the collective singular in favor of multiple Reasons.

The Journal Revista de Teoria da História is also interested in works that address significant themes scrutinized by Reason throughout the History of Historiography and the History of Human Sciences. Contributions might explore the topics of Rationalism, Enlightenment, Idealism, Materialism, Historicism, Romanticism, Relativism, Constructivism, Deconstructionism, Psychoanalysis, the Linguistic Turn, and other related theoretical frameworks. Additionally, we welcome reflections on epistemological or ontological questions pertinent to this extensive field of inquiry.
