Autumn of Theory?
On the Meaning of a Theory of Historical Knowledge Without History

In this essay we carry out a careful analysis of the “theory of history without history” (THsH). After highlighting the nihilistic character of this program, we intend, in a second step, to place it in the broader context of the history of theory in the West. In the third and final section, we will briefly discuss what the idea of a THsH seems to be indicating: the possible exhaustion of the traditional conception of theory in the human sciences.
