Abstract

This work attempts to recover a concept of actuality and actualization (or updating) that can stand against the idea of automaticity contained in the concept of actualism. Although this concept adequately describes a contemporary experience of time, it seems to be a victim of the same phenomenon it denounces, by losing sight of its historicity and, with it, the range of possibilities that transform any category into a disputed territory. Through the review of other conceptions of actualization, present in different traditions, we will try to expand the meaning of the concept of actualism as to provide a tool for thinking and warding against an overwhelming historical and political conformation that is also perceived as unstoppable.
