HISTÓRIA, TEORIA E LIBERDADE: SAUDAÇÃO A JÖRN RÜSEN

Abstract

The word history, it's never too much to remember, has at least two meanings. On the one hand it points to everything historians do when researching materials remaining from the past and writing stories; on the other, for a key concept that we employ to make sense of collective experiences, experiences whose significance to us today, we want to emphasize when we qualify them as "historical". Rüsen's work covers history in these two basic meanings. His first publication of greater breath was the doctoral thesis, defended at the University of Cologne in 1966, and later adapted for publication. It is a work on the 18th century German historian and theorist Johann Gustav Droysen; more specifically on how droysen's interpretations of ancient and modern history are impregnated with theoretical premises that he would later develop more systematically (RÜSEN, 1969).
