TODA VIDA PODE SER CONTADA: RAZÃO HISTÓRICA E BIOGRAFIA EM WILHELM DILTHEY

From the second half of the twentieth century on, the biography recovered its place of prestige in the reflections of historians, overcoming the distrust that had been imputed by the Marxism and the Annales. Nowadays, it is very expressive the proliferation of studies of individual trajectories, whether they be common or illustrious men. On the other hand, several of the issues ofthegender had beenfaced by the nineteenth-century historiography. The aim of this paper is to recover the important formulations of Wilhelm Dilthey about the biography. With this proposal, we intend to demonstrate how the German philosopher faced, in his time, crucial questions for the biographical writing, such as the subjectivity of the biographer; the limits of narrative representation of an individual's life and the opposition between freedom and determinism.
