Abstract

Questions and problems, doubts and perplexities, attitudes and position taking
constitute motivation for a profitable dialogue between the author, its work
and the reader. In the characterization of the contemporary poet, denominated
modern (compared to the old poet), distinguish himself in his anguish the
consequences of his individualistic solitude and of the unavoidable collapse
of his own conversion into myth, as Lourenço (1974). Common traces make
the tendencies of the contemporary poetry equal, integrating it in the bigger or
smaller effort to keep it distant from the literary tradition, outlining an ample
range of rupture contracts, visible in the form as well as in the content, assuming,
from the tendencies, support or refusal of the vanguard movement. Our
proposal is, then, an analytic study of the poetic work of Miguel Torga and its
main thematic lines, discussing the poetic subject attitude while Men and Poet,
in face of his time.
