Abstract

The article analyses two short stories separated by a quarter of a century: La vendetta del cane, by Luigi Pirandello (first published in 1913) and A patativa, by the Brazilian Gastão Cruls, included in the volume História puxa história, released in1938. What is at stake in this analysis is the representation of the animal, the perception of the cruelty with which it is treated, but above all the way each story understands the meaning of the human.
