In this article, by using in a more accurate way an episode of the kidnapping ofa family and the discursive practices of two radio stations that covered the
event as well as some short news casts, it is possible to point out some attitudes
the media demonstrates such as the self-compliment, the putting-down of the
competition and the search for hegemony inside in its discursive field. The
media do not hesitate in self promotion even when lives are at risk.
