PAYSAGES post-utopiques

This essay seeks to bring onto focus three different kinds of artistic manifestations in which searches (or hopes) for a meaningful future are "deconstructed" and made to overlap with or dissolve into imaginary constructs or "critical" (in both senses of the word) gestures.
The works analyzed in this essay - which is an "interartistic study" in its own right - illustrate the essay's basic premise insofar as they suggest that quest for identity, both on the individual and national levels, ultimately results in the finding of the lack or in the indication of a loss.
