Nóbrega and Anchieta: A 'emerging literature'?

An examination of theatrical texts produced by these 16-century Jesuits, from two angles: as part of a mercantile, expansionist project; and as a demonstration of prevailing philosophical bases, in the light of Foucault's concept of similitude.
The work tracks referencesto Nóbrega and Anchieta in several histories of Brazilian literature, in an attempt to identify what might be called a Brazilian core in the writings of two Jesuits, in spite of the seemingly European configuration of their texts.
