Abstract

After working hard in a research about the death by hanging of a rich farmer,
Carlos Marchi wrote Fera de Macabu: a história e o romance de um condenado
à morte. The first part of the book’s title is addressed to the way that the local
newspaper labeled the farmer accused of being the man who sent to death a
family of workers. The second is an awkward way of explaining the blend of
journalism, history and literature in the narrative. However, we believe that the
best way of reading this book is as a nonfiction novel.
