Abstract

This article examines a strategy in the racist discourse in the Brazilian public sphere. The accusation launched by advocates of the status quo or by people who criticize affirmative action policies which benefit black people that such policies are a type of reverse racismo is examined. Based on Critical Discourse Analysis, it focuses on racismo, anti-racism, the link between racism and democracy, the implications of the fight against racism and the relationship between racism and discourse. It investigates how discursive aspects are used in diferent ways by both antagonistic discourses in order to defend one’s perspective.
