In its condensation of meanings, the images which illuminate Manuel Bandeira’s poem “Alumbramento” unfold into several topics. First, the poetry as a testimony of feelings; the speechless amazement in face of a dazzled vision; the connections with Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy’; the pure air of the mountain ranges; the atmosphere of Thomas Mann’s ‘The Magic Mountain’; Aphrodite’s irresistible beauty; the symbology of celestial visions, and at last, the sacred nudity of ancient Greek statues. This article aims to reread Bandeira’s poem in its singularity through the rearrangement of its suggestive intertextual dynamic.
