Abstract

After a brief presentation of the figure and the work of the Canon Januário da Cunha Barbosa (1780-1846), the paper approaches the pioneering collection Parnazo Brasileiro, ou Collecção das melhores poezias dos poetas do Brasil, tanto ineditas, como ja impressas (1829-1832), discussing the concept of Brazilian literature that underlies it.
