Abstract

The  main  purpose  of  this  article  is  to  describe  and  to  analyze  the  uses  of the pronoun você (you) in spoken interactions in Portuguese. The corpus is composed  by  interviews  presented  in  the  television  program  Sem  Censura, whose theme was “Exponents of the so-called Generation Y”. We adopted the theoretical assumptions of Conversation Analysis, in particular the studies of Marcuschi (1986) and Barros (2013). Our hypothesis is that você (you) can be used by speakers as an indefinite pronoun in order to obtain expressive effects, such as emotional involvement between speakers.

Professora Doutora em Filologia e Língua Portuguesa pela Faculdade de Filosofia, Letras e Ciências Humanas da Universidade de São Paulo (FFLCH/USP). É Mestre em Língua e Literatura Italiana por essa mesma universidade, onde também obteve o título de Bacharel em Letras com Habilitação em Língua Italiana e Língua Portuguesa. Atua como professora do curso de Letras junto à Universidade Paulista (UNIP) desde 2009.
