The main purpose of this article is to describe and to analyze the uses of the pronoun você (you) in spoken interactions in Portuguese. The corpus is composed by interviews presented in the television program Sem Censura, whose theme was “Exponents of the so-called Generation Y”. We adopted the theoretical assumptions of Conversation Analysis, in particular the studies of Marcuschi (1986) and Barros (2013). Our hypothesis is that você (you) can be used by speakers as an indefinite pronoun in order to obtain expressive effects, such as emotional involvement between speakers.Downloads
