Abstract

The organization of the personal space reveals important pieces of information about the priorities set by each individual for his/her identity narration. It is the  dynamics  of  proximity  and  distance  that  shapes  social  interactions.  In the novel Solange es schön ist, by Magdalena Sadlon, the concrete space is a building, in which neighbours living close to each other negotiate meanings, in order to create their own subjective space. This negotiation includes the need for attention, taking responsibility and the principle of hostility, motivated by fear of indifference, by the necessity of affective and personal liberty and the inability to understand each other.
