This paper proposes an analysis of the aesthetical effects that can be perceived in the narrative structure of the short story “A hora e vez de Augusto Matraga”, part of the book Sagarana written by Guimarães Rosa, concerning the theme of conversion from sinner to saint. It also focuses on the effects of meaning that arrives from the fact that the narrator declares that it is a “made up story”, and from the fact that its structure is elaborated in triads. The theoretical background is based on structuralism, particularly on the work of Genette, and critical articles about the work of Guimarães Rosa.Downloads
