This paper, based on the analysis of author’s variants in the essay O SambaRural Paulista by Mário de Andrade, intends to provide information that may
assist future studies about the author and essentially about his inaugural work regarding the typical paulista manifestation. We examine the direct tradition of the investigated text, including the work with notes and corrigenda made by the writer himself. To proceed to the analysis of the collected data, we use as theoretical background studies on textual criticism, pointing to the relevance of review in the establishment of the critical text.
