Abstract

The objective of this paper is to present the results of the analysis of wajãpi students’ school production written in Portuguese as a second language. The focus of the analysis was the description and interpretation of textual markers that refer to the collective memory of the Wajãpi people. The  reference to the collective memory is one of the constituent forms of the modes of producing and transmitting knowledge of the oral tradition. The Wajãpi, indigenous inhabitant of Amapá (BR), are a community of predominantly oral tradition in recent contact with literacy social practices. The research was done with a longitudinal corpus , collected during my teaching experience among this people. The authors of the texts are youngsters and adults who were part of the first generation of Wajãpi to attend school. It was found that in the school writing of youngsters and adults the collective memory of their people is frequently accessed. This paper shows part of the results presented in my doctoral thesis.
