Habermas intends to establish formal procedures for producing consensus on moral issues based on language. It remains to be seen, however, whether the ideal speech situation, which indicates the basic conditions for consensus, could escape a pragmatic critique that takes into account the following problems: a) the impossibility of a morally neutral rationality or one that does not carry a moral value in itself; b) the need for a coercive character of the ideal speech situation, that is, for consensus to be possible, its basic conditions must already be consensually taken as a normative element.
