EFFECT OF RICE HULL ASH ON LEAF BLAST CONTROL IN RICE
Keywords:

The effect of rice hull ash as a silicon (Si) source on rice leaf blast (Pyricularia grisea) control was studied in two types of soils. The treatments consisted of rice hull ash and rice hull, five rates of application ( 0, 2, 4, 8 and 16 g/kg of soil) and two types of soils (oxisol and inceptisol). The experiment was carried out under controlled inoculation conditions in the greenhouse. Twenty one day old plants of the rice cultivar Metica-1 was inoculated with spore suspension of a virulent isolate (race ID-14) of P. grisea. Rice hull or its ash applied in the oxisol and the inceptisol reduced significantly the lesion number/cm2 when compared with the control. The inceptisol showed better results than the oxisol in relations to reduction in lesions number.
