Imaginando o Matriarcado
"reinos de mulheres" na China Tang

As fontes chinesas tradicionais designavam certas sociedades autônomas como “reinos de mulheres”, seja nos casos em que homens não estavam presentes na população ou que as mulheres ocupavam a cabeça do Estado. Este artigo procura identificar e discutir os reinos de mulheres, como conhecidos na China Tang, sob duas categorias: 1ª. Reinos míticos construídos por lenda e imaginação e 2ª. Reinos históricos localizados no oeste do Tibet, no Japão e na Coeria, os quais, de fato, interagiram com a China Tang. Na luz da corrente visão sobre matriarcado, apenas a caracterização chinesa do reino tibetano, antes do século oitavo, pode ser entendida como evidência de um verdadeiro matriarcado em termos de governo feminino, sucessão matrilinear e residência matrilocal. Apesar dos reinados quase contemporâneos da única mulher “imperador”, Wu Zetian, das três rainhas reinantes da Coreia Silla e da meia dúzia de imperatrizes do Japão Yamato/Nara, nenhum destes “reinos de mulheres” pode ser entendido como matriarcados, pois as mulheres, em geral, não exerciam um governo dominante no Estado ou na sociedade.
