Abstract

This paper explores the jograria, a social and cultural practice in the Iberian Kingdoms (Xlllth and XlVth centuries). This practice included a series of connected activities: music, danse, poetry and songs. Jograis and soldadeiras were itinerants entertainers in the world of royal and episcopal courts and urban religious festivals of the kingdoms of Leon, Castille and Portugal. This paper also points at the ecclesiastical and lay condemnation of this urban cultural practice all long the Middle Ages (infamia).
