Abstract

This article seeks to explore three satirical poems (cantigas) of Xlllth and XIV centuries on catastrophic signals of the end of the world. These lay compositions reveal images from the Christian religious imaginary on the apocalyptical signals which preceed the Final Judgement. Two images are recurrent: the world up side down and the coming of the Antichrist. Joan Soarez Coelho, Martim Moya (or Moxa) e Pedro, Conde de Barcelos, are the selected noble poets of these songs. These works show the use of both cultural european topoi and iberic cultural situations.

Key words: Escathology, antichrist, the world up side down, satirical songs, image.
