ORDEN’S NORMATIZATION: THE NATIONAL GUARD IN MINAS GERAIS IN THE NINETEENTH CENTURY

Abstract

This paper intends to approach the participation of National Guard in the formation of the Brazilian State in nineteenth century, specially in the city of Mariana, state of Minas Gerais. The National Guard was a civil militia created by the liberals during the Regency whose function was to serve as an instrument of connection between the central State and the landlords in the attempt of constituting a bureaucratic and rational government.
