This paper presents a historical analysis of the film “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” (1986), by the American director John Hughes. The picture was a hit at the time, and it is considered a cult movie today. The analysis is based on readings of plots, narratives and images of the film departing from its historical context, as pointed out by Michèle Lagny (2009). The paper presents a contextualization of the 1980s in the United States, mainly the Ronald Reagan presidency and the implementation of a series of political, economic and social measures energized by neoconservative principles. Among the policies advocated by Reagan and his group, we highlight those aimed at the field of education and the issues that affected black and latin communities in the country, based on how such groups are represented in the film. A critical reading of the movie emerging from its historical context and also from the representations it allows us to build was the canvas where we point to images that dialogue with the current moment, within the rise of neoconservative movements.
