Abstract

while composing El libro de los estados, from 1327 to 1330, don Juan Manuel witnessed the strengthening of the royal power of Alfonso XI, which was a detriment to the noble power.  If take a look at the image of the king draw in the text, we see that it is partly defined for his subjugation to the law and for the joint responsibility with his nobles in the execution of power. Thus, we can assume that don Juan Manuel, a cultural producer and a political actor of his time, reacted to Alfonso’s project bringing back some values from the molinist political and cultural frame from the times of Fernando IV, in which he was raised.
