Abstract

This article aims to analyze the construction of the identity of the city of Novo Hamburgo (RS) through the definition of its patrimony. Different identities define, in its constructions, a group of signs that become its representatives and that characterize and give meaning to them. The identities that involve the definition of a specific geographic space, that is, the national regional and city identities are privileged in the definition of specific constructions or objects like patrimony and legislation and conservation policies are put in place to preserve the identity signs. The analysis of this patrimony allows us to characterize the identity of what is represented through it.
