Abstract

The paper starts by introducing numismatics as an alternative historical document, studying political issues relating to the Roman emperor Constantine the First. The paper emphasizes the importance of using different sources, such as iconographic and archaeological. The numismatic collection stored at the National Historical Museum at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, serves to show how images were used as propaganda for imperial rule.
