Abstract

The literature about the African slave in colonial Brazil must have followed certain parameters. The aim of this article is to demonstrate that the writings about the captive negroes, from 1630 to 1758, describe commom regularities, when questions such as the slaveholders obligations are considered. In the same way, questions referring to miscigenation (the interbreeding between negroes and whites) also constitute writers' point of reflection.
