A METRÓPOLE DO CAFÉ: URBANIZAÇÃO TUMULTUARIA E COSMOPOLITISMO SÓCIO CULTURAL, 1890-1920

This article analyses some features of São Paulo urban development process in the years between 1890 and 1920. So, the tensions of configuration of one cosmopolitan atmosphere in the city tryed to reproduce the values and standards of modernity and of civilization valid in the european nations. It's one reflection about the multiplicity of times and the social rythms involved in the trials of the construction of one national identity desired to country by brasilian elite at this time and his relations with the transformations of São Paulo. The desires of modernity of coffe planters of State São Paulo was pulsing in the center of this urban development process.
