Abstract

This article attempts to interpret the colonial occupation of Western-Central Brazil and conflicts with the Amerindian peoples, especially the Southern Kayapó. Reseaches in official documents and ethnographic data, with the intention of focusing on the interplay of representations of non-indigenous people concerning Indians as well as the Indians' representations of non-Indians (specifically the Southern Kayapó who were involved in this process).
