Musealization of archeology: some subsidies and antecedents

Abstract

The article articulates two texts by the author, written in 2007, which summarize some premises of the Musealization of
Archeology. These texts were initially shared with students who were part of the research line of the Postgraduate Program in Archeology of the Museum of Archeology and Ethnology on the University of São Paulo (MAE-USP), currently the Research Group of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), which is coordinated by the author and Profa. Camila de Moraes Wichers. Besides highlighting central points such as archaeological reality and museological operative chain, the subsidies of the Musealization of Archaeology highlight the importance of applied actions and interdisciplinary work. There is also the presentation of the antecedents and connections of these studies in contemporary times, underlining the importance of understanding the historicity of collections, institutions and academic reflections. The researcher
traces some of the reference works for this line of research, bringing the concept of musealization as the driving force of theseexperiences. For this dossier, aimed at the debate about the social role of collections, museums and institutions for the custody of archaeological collections, the Museum of Archeology acquires special relevance, which is why these unpublished texts are gathered and presented here. At the end, there are some indications regarding
the paths followed after the restricted sharing of these texts.
