Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The contribution must be original and unpublished and not under evaluation for publication in other journals.
- The files for submission must be formatted according to the guidelines described in “GUIDELINES FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE ARTICLE,” from the items 1 to 11. https://revistas.ufg.br/fef/about/submissions#authorGuidelines
- Pensar a Prática will assess simultaneously up to two articles by the same author/co-author. If this limit is extrapolated, the new submission will be filed without merit review.
Author Guidelines
GUIDELINES FOR PAPER PREPARATION
1. Focus of the Journal
Pensar a Prática publishes articles related to the academic and professional field of Physical Education. It is edited under the institutional responsibility of the School of Physical Education and Dance of the Federal University of Goiás with continuous flow of publications, and submissions can be made at any time, on continuous demand system.
2. Section Policies
The texts submitted to the Journal Pensar a Prática must be directed to one of the following sections; however, at the discretion of the editors, the manuscript may be redirected to another section:
a) Original Articles: studies resulting from empirical research with original data presented in the abstract and in the body of the text considering the following structure: introduction, problem, objectives, methodology, results and discussion.
b) Review Articles: studies whose goal is to summarize, analyze, evaluate or synthesize theoretical and/or published research.
c) Essays: studies that present theoretical reflections, based on free and original interpretations, without dispensing entirely a rigorous empirical documentation and bibliographical apparatus.
d) Reviews: studies with comments and critical reviews of books, films, plays, choreographies or other products resulting from academic, artistic or reflections of other nature.
3. Language
Pensar a Prática accepts the submission of articles in Portuguese, English and Spanish. The adequacy of the written account to the standard language adopted and to ABNT standards is the sole responsibility of the author.
4. Article format
a) Title: it shall be concise and informative, in Portuguese or in the language in which the article will be submitted. Formatted in capital letters (uppercase), Times New Roman font, size 14, bold and left-aligned;
b) Abstract: it shall be informative, in Portuguese or in the language in which the article will be submitted, including objective, method, results, conclusion. Each abstract shall have, at most, 790 characters (including spaces);
c) Keywords: they must be made up of up to four terms that identify the subject of the article in Portuguese or in the language in which the article will be submitted, separated by a period.
The terms suggested are those available from Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS). Available from http://decs.bvs.br;
d) Title/Abstract/Keywords in a foreign language 1: English title, abstract with up to 790 characters (including spaces) and keywords must be entered.
If the article is submitted in English or Spanish, this item should be filled with title, abstract and keywords in Portuguese;
e) Title/Abstract/Keywords in a foreign language 2: Spanish title, abstract (resumen) with up to 790 characters (including spaces) and keywords (palabras-clave) must be entered.
If the article is submitted in Spanish, this item should be filled with title, abstract and keywords in English;
f) Textual elements: the guidelines relating to the chosen section must be followed (original articles; review articles; essays; reviews);
g) References: they must be written in accordance with norm NBR 6023/2018.
In the preparation of the article, ABNT standards shall be observed concerning the presentation of articles in periodicals (NBR 6022/2018), presentation of citations in documents (NBR 10.520/2023), standard for dating (NBR 5892/1989) and abstracts (NBR 6028/2003), as well as the tabular presentation of IBGE.
5. Limit of authors
The article cannot exceed the number of six authors
Authorship Responsibility Term: when the submitted manuscript has four to six authors, a digitized declaration of authorship responsibility signed by all must be sent.
It is noted that, after starting the evaluation of the manuscript's merit, changes in authorship data will not be allowed, such as the inclusion or removal of authors and modification of the sequence of authorship.
The ORCID of all authors must be included at the time of article submission, in the metadata section.
6. Font and spacing of the article
The texts must be typed in text editor Word (DOC format), Times New Roman font, size 12, single line spacing between lines.
7. Size of the article and of the review
The maximum size for original articles, review articles and essays (without titles, abstracts, keywords and references at the end) shall be of thirty thousand (30,000) characters (including spaces). For the review, the maximum size shall be of ten thousand (10,000) characters (including spaces). Studies that exceed these limits will not be accepted.
8. Notes, appendix, figures, tables and URL address
a) Notes: notes contained in the article shall be indicated with Arabic numerals immediately after the word or phrase to which it relates. The notes shall be at the bottom of the corresponding page.
b) Appendices: extensive listings, statistics and other supporting elements must be submitted as a supplementary document.
c) Figures and tables: photographs, charts, figures and tables (strictly indispensable for the clarity of the text) shall be inserted in the body of the text. In case the illustrations incorporated into the article have already been published, the author must mention the source.
d) URL address: all URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://www.ibict.br) must be active.
9. Ethics committee, conflict of interest, authorship responsibility and authorship identification
a) Ethics Committee: ethical research criteria must be respected under the terms of Resolutions no. 466/2012 and no. 510/2016 of the National Health Council. Thus, when the research involves human data collection, the authors shall forward the opinion number of the Ethics Committee as “supplementary document.”
b) Conflict of interest: in case there are conflicts of interest in the research, they must be explicitly submitted in comment to the editor.
c) Authorship responsibility: when the manuscripts submitted have from four to six authors, a responsibility statement scanned and signed by all authors shall be sent.
d) Authorship identification: there should be no information (e.g., author name; institution; research group) that allows the identification of the authors in the body of the text and in the file in which the article was written.
To remove the identification from the file, open it in Word on the title bar File/Properties/Abstract and delete all information. This procedure ensures the confidentiality of the journal.
The information of the authors must be in the electronic system of the journal Revista Pensar a Prática in parts regarding the filling of the metadata.
10. Financial support
It is mandatory to inform in the manuscript, in the form of a footnote, on the first page of text, any and all financial aid received for the research. In case there is no financial support, the following footnote must be added: “This study did not receive financial support of any nature.”
11. Complementary information
Clinical Trials: Pensar a Prática supports the policies for registration of clinical trials of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), recognizing the importance of these initiatives for registration and international disclosure of information about clinical studies, in open access. Thus, the clinical research articles that will be accepted for publication, as from 2007, are those that have received an identification number in one of the clinical trial registries validated by the criteria established by the WHO and ICMJE, whose addresses are available from the ICMJE website (http://www.icmje.org/). This information should be submitted by means of supplementary document.
GUIDELINES FOR ARTICLE SUBMISSION
1. Beginning of the Submission
All studies must be sent through the Electronic System for Journal Publishing (SEER), to the address: http://www.revistas.ufg.br/index.php/fef/.
To submit the study, the main author must be registered in the journal. After the registration, the system shall be accessed by filling in login and password.
2. Submission Process
After accessing the system, the author must click on the button “New submission,” which will redirect to the beginning of a process divided into Five Steps, which are: (1) Start; (2) Upload Submission File; (3) Enter Metadata; (4) Confirmation; (5) Next Steps.
Each step must be duly completed with the following information:

In the first step, the following information shall be completed:
2.1.1 Language
Portuguese, English or Spanish.
2.1.2 Section
Original articles, review articles, essays or reviews.
2.1.3 Conditions for submission
As part of the submission process, the authors are required to verify the conformity of the submission regarding all the following items: Submissions that are not in accordance with the standards will be returned to the authors.
- The contribution must be original and unpublished and not under evaluation for publication in other journals.
- The files for submission must be formatted according to the guidelines described in “GUIDELINES FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE ARTICLE,” from the items 1 to 11.
- Pensar a Prática will assess simultaneously up to two articles by the same author/co-author. If this limit is extrapolated, the new submission will be filed without merit review.
2.1.4 Comments to the editor and indication of evaluators
During the submission process, the system will provide an area for direct communication between the author and the editor, which must be filled with a short presentation of the manuscript (a paragraph is recommended) to highlight its scientific contribution.
To include a list suggesting at least two evaluators (doctoral researchers) to the manuscript, with name, e-mail, contact institution in the area “comments to the editor,” after the submission of the manuscript.
Attention, do not appoint researchers who have participated in any part of the research that originated the manuscript or who are or have been connected with the authors, compromising thus the evaluation process. It is also vetoed the appointment of evaluators belonging to the same research groups and to the same institutions of the authors. Despite the suggestion of reviewers, the double-blind review process will be respected.
2.2 Upload Submission
In the second step, the manuscript file shall be transferred to the system of the journal. Before sending the file, make sure that the latest version meets the “Guidelines for the preparation of the article,” items from 1 to 10. Properly name the files, for example: original article, review article, ethics committee, authorship statement, etc., because the file name will be registered in the system.
2.2.1 Upload Submission File
In the "Article component" box, select "Article text" and upload the file.
2.2.2 Review details
Click "Continue" to move on.
2.2.3 Confirm
- To send the complementary files (ethics committee, statement signed by the authors, appointment of referees, etc.), click on "Add Another File", and repeat the previous steps until registering all the necessary files.
After registering all the files, click on "Complete", and later on "Save and continue".
2.3 Enter Metadata
In the third step, the metadata shall be populated with the data from all of the authors (limit of 6 authors), title and abstract, knowledge area, keywords, etc.
2.4 Confirmation
In the fourth step the author will have the opportunity to view a summary of the files transferred to the system of the journal and, therefore, complete or cancel the submission. After completing, the main author will receive some acknowledgement for the submission.
2.5 Next Steps
In the fifth and final step the author will have the opportunity to view a summary of the files transferred to the system of the journal or start a new submission.
2.6 Copyright Declaration
Authors who publish in this journal must agree with the following terms:
- Authors keep their copyrights and grant the journal first time publication rights, having their articles simultaneously licensed under Creative Commons Attribution License, which allows online file sharing with authorship recognition and initial publication on this journal.
- Authors are allowed to make additional contracts, for a non-exclusive distribution of the original version of the study published on this journal (e.g., publishing in institutional repositories or as a book chapter), with authorship recognition and initial publication on this journal.
- Authors are allowed and encouraged to publish and distribute their studies online (e.g., in institutional repositories or personal page) at any point before or after the editorial process, as this can generate productive changes and increase the impact and citation of the published study.
