Ballroom Dance, beyond its aesthetic and artistic dimensions, is part of health promotion practices, especially when health is conceived from a broader perspective. The study aimed to understand the motivations for practicing these dances and their interrelations with the expanded concept of health. A descriptive qualitative methodology was used, with semi-structured interviews conducted with Ballroom Dance practitioners in public and private spaces in Pelotas, Brazil. Data analysis revealed motivations such as improved balance and motor coordination, pleasure, socialization, self-acceptance, and encouragement to engage in other physical activities. Ballroom Dance proved to be a powerful experience of care and health practice, promoting autonomy and overall well-being.
