EXPANDING THE DIALOGUE ABOUT THE PRESENCE OF PARENTS IN SPORTS

Abstract

The presence of parents in sporting environments is pointed out as having a significant influence on the sport participation of their children. However, more than "just" influencing their children throughout their trajectory, parents need to deal with sport-specific demands that, at the same time, directly affect the way they choose to offer parental support. Although the international investigative agenda offers contributions on parental involvement, evidence is still unwell systematized in the national sport research scenario. In light of these aspects, the aim was to present who parents in sport are from the Sport Parenting lens, evidencing an integrated understanding of the sport system and its consequent mutual influence among individuals.
