The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of two different rest intervals (IR) on the total work (TT) of a traditional resistance training session. Twelve men (24,1 ± 3,6 years) active physically, done in this order 3 sets of the exercises: leg press, bench press, latpulldown, triceps curl, biceps curl, with 60 (P60) or 120 (P120) seconds of IR. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) 2 x 3 with repeated measures was used with post-hoc of LSD. The TT decreased in subsequent sets independet of the IR in all exercises (p<0,05); despite P120 did not maintain the TT in the 3 sets, the sum of TT was higher when compared with P60 (p<0,05), except in leg press exercise.
