This book review is related to “The rites of passage” from the authorship of Arnold Van Gennep. The author was the first to point out the existence of constitutive aspects of the turning point in the change of social status of the individual. The importance to analyze ceremonies, rites, spectacles, which are concerned to fundamental events in some social group pertaining process, is discussed. Using a socioanthropological reflection, this classic book demonstrates that the notion of collective identity is linked to how others recognize the individual. This text stimulates to think in sociocultural aspects which permeates Physical Education academic field.Downloads
