Physical Education Teachers at a Vocational School and their Teaching Culture: the interconnections between knowledge and skills of the professional basis and the academic field

This work belongs to the scope of studies that focus on the process of building a teacher education syllabus . This study relates, in a synthetic form, a research work on teacher’s professional knowledge and skills which was undertaken with three Physical Education teachers. As such, it tries to analyze which is the existing relation between the process of construction of the professional knowledge and skills which are necessary to teaching and the syllabus component that was actually taught. In this way, the study reveals that teachers knowledge and skills express the peculiarities of the educational mission statements and work environments and it points to the existence of unique teaching cultures which are structured in a professional field which is rich in its diversity of contents. As a conclusion, it shows that content and pedagogy are parts of an indistinct body of knowledge. KEYWORDS: teacher knowledge and skills – professional socialization – physical educationDownloads
