This research study focuses on football as it is practiced in the Brazilian South - in Rio Grande do Sul state to be more specific – where, since the early decades of the 20th century, it is possible to identify how football creates and promotes relationships both in Porto Alegre - the capital city - and in the countryside. This research work is limited to the “football associations” and the study sources are documents and other studies on the historiography of Porto Alegre that deal with this topic.
