Abstract
In a disturbing beginning of century, characterized by the production of a worldwide geographic space each time more fluid and in constant transformation, it is necessary to ask about the role Geography plays nowadays. In such aspect, this article aims at: a) reflecting about the knowledge produced by Geography; b) discussing the importance of geographic knowledge for society; and c) analyzing the contribution of a critical, relational and multidimensional Geography. As means to reach these goals, we seek to discuss, throughout the text, the prerogatives of Geography in the 21st century. We defend that a critical, relational and multidimensional analysis of geographic space allows the subjects to understand that environmental crisis, socioeconomic problems and geopolitical conflicts are products of political decisions, taken by human beings themselves, in search for capital accumulation. Reversing such situation is a task for those who believe in the production of a better world.
Keywords: Geographic knowledge. Society. Space.
