The transformation of Praça da Liberdade into a cluster of museum

Abstract

The research aims to present a distinct concept of museums, which starts from the simple physical concentration of the culture installations, to achieve an urban transformation, of greater visibility and impact on the cities, the cluster. The object of study is the Praça da Liberdade in Belo Horizonte, an urban space with a strong memorial value for political and social events, which have been relieved of their purpose to make way for a tourist-media infrastructure. The study starts with a historiographical review of the plaza's formation, revealing its importance as an architectural complex and the symbolic relevance of this place, in order to explain the developments resulting from the creation of a new urban logic in the city.
