Abstract

The vegetation in the cities brings numerous benefits.  For the children, these spaces can be used in formal education, as a strategy to prevent the spread of Coronavirus or as a form of teaching with and in nature. In order for these processes of teaching and learning in natural environments to be possible, they need to be readily available near the schools. So, this study aimed to investigate, with the use of geoprocessing tools and freely available spatial data, the existence of tree cover in the courtyard and in the spaces of public use, free of buildings and with Vegetation (EUPLEVs) around the municipal elementary schools I in Curitiba (PR), as well as the conditions of access and stay in these EUPLEVs considering traffic routes with the highest flow of vehicles. As a result, it was found that, from the 185 schools analyzed, 11 did not have tree vegetation in the courtyard or EUPLEVs in the school surroundings, while 6 other schools, although they had tree vegetation in EUPLEVs, presented traffic obstacles to access or stay in these spaces.
