Abstract

This paper aims to address, in a broad manner, another interpretative framework for the standardized concept of urban in the work of Henri Lefebvre. It is, mainly, an effort to finding methodological elements used by the author that explain the intention behind this concept. My interest, then, is to conduct a research on the definition of urban by Lefebvre, in order to contribute to the understanding of this important philosopher’s thought. The concept of urban has been the main topic of debates and controversies regarding Lefebvre’s perspective, as it is evoked by the author in a broad sense – rather than in interpretative closure. The argument developed is that the conceptual arsenal of the author is similar to Adorno’s Dialectics, thus acknowledging the non-concept status of how Lefebvre makes use of the signifier “urban”.
