Abstract

This article analyses, from a cultural point of view, gated communities for middle class in Mexico. The investors present these urban spaces as alternatives opposed to a chaotic and dangerous city, but it turns out to be a simulation, that once lived, loses its charm and becomes an utopia, an ideal but inexistent place. As a case study I take two gated communities promoted by the same company, but in two separate Mexican cities, distant one from the other: Tijuana and Mexico City. Key words: utopia, distopia, imaginaries, gated communities, Mexico.
