The exodus:
a memorable spectacle of French theater with masks

The motivation for this research was to deepen knowledge about the pedagogy of the Frenchman Jacques Lecoq (1921-1999), in particular the influences on his proposal for teaching mask theater and movement theater. To this end, we sought to learn about one of the references he indicated: the show The exodus [L’Exode], in which he participated in his initial training. The show was performed by the Grenoble Actors Company [Compagnie des Comédiens de Grenoble], in 1946. French bibliographical references were consulted as well as reviews of the show published at the time. Understanding the context of the show's production leads us to observe the period of decentralization of the theater from Paris to the interior of the country, after the Second World War.
