Abstract

This article explores the relevance of the legacy of the Science of Religion and the academic achievements of the discipline, considered essential for the formation of the identity of this area. The contemporary state of any scientific domain is the result of an extensive process of transmission of an intellectual heritage that was collectively constructed and planned by previous generations. The purpose of this text is to highlight the achievements of an autonomous discipline that ensures continuity in terms of the improvement or critical review of previously established knowledge. For this analysis, we will draw on the works of the religious scientist Frank Usarski from PUC-SP and other renowned authors who have contributed to the study of the subject.
