Questionando o falso dilema entre integração e radicalismo na história oficial dos direitos civis nos Estados Unidos

Malcolm X e Martin Luther King Jr. foram durante décadas colocados em posições políticas antagônicas, de um lado um pacifista e integracionista, do outro, um separatista e “supremacista negro”. Pretendo mostrar, me apoiando nas autobiografias e alguns discursos selecionados de ambos os ativistas e em um diálogo com as atuais abordagens dos Black Power Studies, que, longe desta visão dicotômica antagonista, suas posições tiveram mais pontos de convergência, se analisadas privilegiando suas experiências e práticas políticas em face ao sistema político racista que confrontavam. Desta maneira, busco demonstrar como a narrativa convencional alimentou um falso dilema, direcionado apenas a reforçar o lugar da dominação, em vez de empoderar a prática política descolonizadora que ambos os ativistas promoveram.
