About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Philósophos (e-ISSN: 1982-2928; ISSN: 1414-2236) published its first issue in 1996. Since then, we have aimed to publish original and argumentative bibliographic material in the area of philosophy and to promote philosophical debate. The papers published by Philósophos are always by authors dedicated to research in Philosophy and who hold PhDs in Brazil and abroad.

Peer Review Process

The papers submitted to the journal are first evaluated by the Editorial Team. This process includes checking for plagiarism using software such as iThenticate and CopySpider.

If approved in the initial analysis, the texts will be forwarded to two PhD reviewers with renowned knowledge in the specific area of the subject. The papers are sent for evaluation without identifying the authors. If a paper receives contradictory opinions, it will be submitted to a third reviewer to break the tie.

Frequency

The publication is biannual, in electronic format, with two issues of each volume per year. The journal is sponsored by the Graduate Program in Philosophy of the Federal University of Goiás.

History of the Journal

Philósophos was created with the aim of disseminating and promoting specialized philosophical discussions among peers, without prejudice, in order to broaden the national philosophical debate. It was created in 1996 by Prof. José Gonzalo Armijos Palacios, from the Faculty of Philosophy at UFG, in a printed version. At first, it worked in partnership with the Philosophy Department at UnB, alternating publications and funding.

In 1999, Prof. Adriano Naves de Britto joined the editorial team and took on the role of editor-in-chief between 2003 and 2004. He created an editorial imprint called Philosophia, thus increasing the printed dissemination of the journal and promoting the renewal of its visual identity. During this period, a website was created for the journal and an electronic ISSN was obtained.

In 2005, Prof. Rogério Fabianne Saucedo Corrêa was the editor of Philósophos, having organized the publication of two volumes.

In 2008, Prof. Araceli Rosich Soares Velloso became the editor-in-chief of the journal, a position she held until 2016 and in which she led the migration of Philósophos to the UFG Journal Portal. The journal's publication became primarily electronic, and peer review procedures were facilitated by registration in the Electronic Journal Publishing System (the Brazilian name for Open Journal Systems). With the work carried out during this period, the journal achieved A2 status in Qualis 2013-2016.

In 2017, professors Renato Moscateli, Ricardo Bazilio Dalla Vecchia and Wellington Damasceno de Almeida jointly assumed the editorship of the journal, and were joined by Prof. Vitor Mauro Ferreira de Romariz Bragança in 2019. During this editorial management, the journal changed its submission reception method, adopting the practice of thematic calls for each issue, and was integrated into the ANPOF Journal Portal. Publication began to be made only in online format. With the announcement of Qualis 2017-2020, Philósophos remained in the A2 extract.

Currently, Prof. Renato Moscateli continues to serve as the journal's editor.
